Promoting West Somerset

Exmoor - Dream, Discover, Explore

Exmoor branding logoWest Somerset Council works with Exmoor National Park Authority and Exmoor Tourism (previously known as Exmoor Tourist Association) to promote the area under the well known 'Exmoor' marketing brand.

The Exmoor marketing brand covers the whole of the West Somerset District, including Quantock Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the east, plus the Exmoor National Park, which goes into North Devon in the west.

The Exmoor name is a strong brand and widely known largely due to its association with the National Park. Two thirds of West Somerset is covered by the Park boundary, and 75% by the Greater Exmoor area.

Research by South West Tourism in 2007 identified Exmoor as one of the five or six strongest brands in terms of interest and awareness in the region.

The Exmoor name and brand is also used by businesses right across the area to promote their services to visitors. It is the key attractor into the West Somerset area.

Marketing is carried out by the Exmoor Tourism Marketing sub-group. Activity varies from year to year depending on budgets available. Funding typically comes from West Somerset Council, Exmoor National Park Authority, Exmoor Tourism and via funding bids.

Recently activity has included PR and social media, the Visit Exmoor website, attendance at travel shows, TV and paper advertising campaigns, competitions and more.
