Waste Core Strategy

Waste Planning Policy is the responsibility of Somerset County Council as the Waste Planning Authority for the County.  The main waste planning policy document is the Somerset Waste Core Strategy, adopted in February 2013.

It is part of the statutory development plan for West Somerset, along with a range of other documents such as the Minerals Local Plan, and the Council’s own Local Plan (once adopted).

The Waste Core Strategy will guide Somerset County Council's approach to planning for sustainable waste management in Somerset until the year 2028.  It covers all forms of waste including household, commercial, industrial and construction waste.

The Waste Core Strategy sets out the detailed environmental and other criteria against which the County Council will judge all applications for waste management facilities.

The Waste Core Strategy can be downloaded from the Somerset County Council website.
