Swimming Pools

Health & Safety at Work Etc Act 1974
DETR – The Treatment and Quality of Swimming Pool Water 1984

The immediate responsibility for pool water quality lies with the pool operators.  This Authority has a responsibility to ensure that pools are maintained in a clean and safe condition and that the water quality meets guidelines so that there is no risk to health under the Public Health Act 1936.

Butlins and Haven Doniford Bay swimming pools are currently routinely monitored by this Authority where water quality as well as filter efficiency is checked.  School swimming pools are also monitored by Somerset County Council, who look at the water balance and microbiological quality.

For further advice please contact either this Authority 01643 703704 or Somerset Scientific Services on 01823 356177, at County Hall.
