Dog Control Orders

Dog fouling and other dog related issues are a great concern for many residents of West Somerset.  With this in mind, the Council decided to introduce Dog Control Orders under the Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005.

Dog Control Orders require people to clean up after any dog in their charge, keep the dog on lead and restricts access to a small number of sites within the District.

Anyone who fails to comply with any of the Control Orders may be issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice for £75 or face prosecution, which could lead to a fine of £1000.

West Somerset Council have teamed up with Avon and Somerset Police to enforce these Orders.

The Control Order for fouling applies to all land in the District of West Somerset which is open to the public, with or without payment.  This includes roads, footpaths, pavements, alley ways and towpaths, all grass verges, parks and open spaces.

There is no excuse for allowing your dog to foul.
