Business strategy and performance unit

The Business Strategy and Performance unit is responsible for;

  • Providing business support to the Enabling and Housing Standards & Financial Assistance unit’s of the Somerset West Private Sector Housing Partnership
  • Providing support to the Partnership Board and individual members of the Board
  • Monitoring performance of the Partnership and respective units

The support services for the units involve many different tasks. The most important function is to drive forward the vision and business direction of the Partnership. This is in two parts;

  • The first part is to ensure that the relevant strategies and policies reflect current priorities and resources. The Private Sector Housing Renewal Strategy is the key document which contains the business plan for the Partnership. Each Unit is responsible for delivering sub strategies which contain more detail on how to deliver the overarching principles of the Private Sector Renewal Strategy. For example, The Private Sector Renewal Strategy has a theme around energy efficiency. The strategy will only detail key deliverables such as to deliver 500 insulation measures into people’s homes in a year. The Affordable Warmth Strategy which the Enabling Unit are responsible for, is a sub strategy. This will detail actions on how the 500 insulation measures will be delivered. This will include such actions as reviewing the Service Level Agreement with the Centre for Sustainable Energy who oversee the insulation scheme called Warm Front.
  • The second part is to ensure that the direction of the business is threaded into the unit work plans and the work plans of the individual Officer’s.

Other support measures range from reviewing and updating the Partnership website with the latest information from the unit’s, through to the drafting of forms, procedures and the updating of the sub strategies.

Another key function of the Strategy and Performance unit is to assist the Partnership Board and individual Board Members with support and advice. The support can take the form of regular reports, both verbal and written, statistics, verbal and written explanations of various elements of the business, attending Executive/Cabinet, Scrutiny  and other Members meetings where required.

The final key function of the unit is to monitor performance of the Partnership through Covalent. Covalent is the Partnership’s approved performance monitoring system. Covalent is structured to reflect the reporting structure of the Partnership. All of the Strategies and Polices are on Covalent where the relevant action plans are monitored. The units report on a regular basis to the Business Strategy and Performance unit on how the actions are progressing and on relevant key targets. This information is uploaded onto Covalent which Board Members and Officers can access. A snap shot report is published once a month on the Partnership website informing the public of our progress.
