Planning Obligations
West Somerset Council collects Planning Obligations (for example, Section 106) funding from developers to spend on community centre enhancements, play and recreation areas, cycle ways, footpaths, open spaces, recreation facilities, bus shelters, natural landscape improvements, community orchards and allotment provision.
These funds will be used within the vicinity of a development to mitigate the effects of the development on the local area.
Usually the Planning Obligations agreements are flexible in detail regarding the actual allocation of the funds, so local parish/town councils and community groups can be involved in the decision process.
