Infrastructure Planning Commission
The Infrastructure Planning Commission (IPC) was created under the Planning Act 2008 and is the independent body that decides applications for nationally significant infrastructure projects including new nuclear power stations. Further information on the IPC, advice and guidance on relevant legislation and the IPC application process is available at:
http://infrastructure.independent.gov.uk/
The Localism Act 2011, which received Royal Assent on the 15th November, abolishes the Infrastructure Planning Commission and transfers it's functions to the Planning Inspectorate. A national infrastructure directorate will be formed within the Planning Inspectorate to examine applications for nationally significant infrastructure projects and will make recommendations to the Secretary of State who will then be the final decision-maker.
