Homes in Multiple Occupation - Inspections

Somerset West Private Sector Housing Partnership has a proactive inspection programme for Houses in Multiple Occupation. If conditions in the properties inspected are not up to standard, the Landlord or owner is required to improve them.
From April 2006, a new act (Housing Act 2004) came into enforce and introduced the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS) which replaced the Housing Fitness Regime. HHSRS is a new system where risks are assessed and scored based on the likelihood to cause harm to the most vulnerable person.
More information on the HHSRS page of this website.
In addition to HHSRS, the Management of Houses in Multiple Occupation (England) Regulations 2006 and the Licensing and Management of Houses in Multiple Occupation (Additional Provisions) (England) Regulations 2007 set minimum standards for Houses in Multiple Occupation.
Inspecting a HMO property
There are a number of reasons why a Officer may want to visit a property. This may be:
- as a result of a complaint
- a request to inspect the property
- a routine visit as part of the HMO inspection programme
- a routine HMO re-inspection
