Corporate Priorities

The Council’s Corporate Plan for 2011-12 has been developed for our staff, councillors, residents and partners.

The Plan was approved at Council on 27th April 2011; It outlines the Council’s vision, priorities and the key tasks that will be undertaken over the next year providing clarity about what we aim to achieve.

Our vision is:

To be an improving Council that, together with its partners is working to provide the necessary infrastructure and opportunities for people to continue to live and prosper un West Somerset. To support the vulnerable and to maximise external funding opportunities to the greater benefit of the whole community.

The Council’s priorities reflect the broad themes necessary for the delivery of the vision. The priorities recognise the financial standing of the council and its role as community leaders in the proposed new nuclear development at Hinkley Point as being the top priorities for the council.

To reflect this, the council’s primary objectives are:

  • Hinkley Point
  • Financial Standing

Other objectives are:

  • Housing
  • Economic Development & Tourism
  • Environment
  • Community Engagement

Details of these objectives and their associated key tasks are included in the Corporate Plan 2011-12 (see related documents). The Corporate Plan also includes information about how we manage performance, the finances supporting it and the council’s commitment to equalities.
