CCTV in Town Centres
A Public Space CCTV system is in operation in Minehead and is operated to provide public reassurance; to assist in the maintenance of community safety and to prevent and detect crime. It is provided by a partnership between Minehead Town Council, West Somerset Council; Avon and Somerset Constabulary and the Community Safety Partnership.
There are two CCTV systems in operation in Minehead. One covers the main retail trading area around The Avenue and surrounding streets and public places. The other system covers the Enterprise Park and Mart Road Industrial Estate. Work is currently ongoing to enhance the town centre system and to extend the coverage to include the seafront area as far as Butlin's and also to replace and increase the cameras on the Enterprise Park. All this work is being funded by the Community Safety Partnership.

Images captured by the system are frequently used by the Police to bring offenders to justice and the CCTV evidence obtained from this system was a key component in the conviction last year of a man for rape and other offences.
This Council also operate CCTV systems at our premises at West Somerset House in Williton together with the Visitor Information and Interpretation and Customer Centres in Minehead.
All of these CCTV systems are registered with the Information Commissioner.
