Hinkley Point Supply Chain
An invitation to Somerset businesses
EDF Energy and local partners have been working together to ensure that Somerset businesses are given opportunity to be part of the supply chain required for the proposed new nuclear power investment at Hinkley Point. A new supply chain portal www.hinkleysupplychain.co.uk is now live for Somerset businesses to register their interest and capabilities.
EDF Energy intends to build (subject to planning) two new EPR reactors at Hinkley Point with the first one operational by 2017. Such major investment will generate significant commercial opportunities for local companies wishing to become an essential part of the supply chain. To deliver a project of this size there is a need to procure a wide range of contracts across all sectors, including engineering, construction, transport, professional and other support services, with many of the contracts being open to non-nuclear specialists.
The aim of the Hinkley Supply Chain Registration portal is to ensure that local companies have the opportunity to tell EDF Energy about their capabilities and for EDF to match these where possible with the full range of requirements. Although there will be significant and necessary safety and quality standards for contractors to meet there is also commitment to guide and support businesses who wish to develop the necessary standards. By registering interest early it will be possible for business to have the time and the support necessary to develop the accreditations required.
This first level of registration aims to capture key contact details and identify the key levels of capability of the businesses in Somerset who register. EDF and local partners will then provide more information relevant to capability and requirement and some businesses will be asked to submit more detailed information in subsequent registrations. EDF Energy are working with the Somerset Chamber of Commerce, Business Link, South West Manufacturing Service and local authorities to deliver an effective supply chain engagement programme for Somerset.
