Equality Impact Assessment
An equality impact assessment (EIA) is a tool for identifying the potential impact of a council’s policies, services and functions on its residents and staff and to ensure that different groups in our community are not disadvantaged.
By carrying out EIAs, a council may also ensure that the services that it provides fulfil the requirements of anti-discrimination and equalities legislation.
Although we have a legal duty to conduct impact assessments, they are an improvement tool that have many benefits. Impact assessments:
- Ensure our policies and services are having the best possible impact on our communities
- Provide us with evidence to show that our policies and services are not having any adverse on our residents and are not discriminating in any way
- Make sure that the services we provide do not overlook or exclude any groups
- Set out ways to collect information to give us feedback on services and monitor their impact
We have agreed a programme of impact assessments covering all our services and these will be published below as they are carried out.
