How to make a Benefit Claim

If you would like to claim benefit or would like advice about claiming benefit, phone the council on 01643 703704 or send us an email benefits@westsomerset.gov.uk including a contact phone number and we will discuss what you need to do next.

We can also make an appointment for you to visit the council offices in Williton or our customer centre in Minehead to complete a claim form with help from a member of the benefits team.

If you require help in completing one of our forms for Housing or Council Tax Benefit and would find it difficult to get in to one of our offices we can arrange for a Benefits Officer to visit you in your home. Further details please see our Benefits Visiting Service page.

In order to claim either housing benefit and/or council tax benefit it will be necessary for you to complete an application form.

You will also need to provide the benefits team with ORIGINAL evidence in support of your application. Further details are provided on the application form

If you do not have a tenancy agreement but wish to claim housing benefit your landlord will need to complete a Rent Proof Form (see related documents on the right side of this page).

If you are working but do not have wage slips you will need to ask your employer to complete an Earnings Certificate (see related documents on the right side of this page).
