Twitter Help Guide

What is Twitter?

Twitter is a free to use social networking service which allows friends, family, co-workers and organisations to send announcements and updates through short 140 character messages.

You can create your own account for free on the Twitter website.

For more information please see Twitter's own help page.

How are West Somerset Council using twitter?

We have created a Twitter account and we will be adding more tweets with links to useful information when we can.

We currently have three types of messages updating our Twitter feed. These are:

  • News - latest press releases
  • Council meetings updates
  • General announcements - current West Somerset Council features

Following

If you follow @wsomerset we will not automatically follow you back. This is to discourage the use of direct messaging, avoid resource-wasting spam handling and so that you can easily identify other key Twitter users that we think are relevant to our industry and government. However, being followed by wsomerset does not imply endorsement of any kind.

Availability

We will update and monitor our Twitter account during office hours, Monday to Friday. Twitter may occasionally be unavailable and we accept no responsibility for lack of service due to Twitter downtime.

@Replies and Direct Messages

We welcome feedback and ideas from all our followers, and will try to join the conversation where possible. However, we may not able to reply individually to all the messages we receive via Twitter.
